Yelp Helps!
More than 20 non-profit groups got to benefit from tonight's event.
Most people know Yelp for its online food reviews, but...
"Yelp isn't just about food. Yelp is about community and connecting," said Emi Hart, Yelp Honolulu Community Manager.
And that's exactly what happened tonight.
"It's a way to make volunteerism cool and fun," said Hart.
A big party bringing together young professionals and non-profit groups.
"We have a lot of Yelpers who are at home but want to help out this holiday season, and summer so it's a great way to meet a lot of organizations and pick the one that's right for them," said Hart.
Augusto DeCastro is a photographer who just moved to Hawaii from Southern California and came to this event looking for groups that could use his help.
"To basically photograph the events any big events these non-profits good for their marketing," said DeCastro.
Doran Porter is with the Affordable Housing and Homeless Alliance, a non-profit group that started up in 2007.that now helps about 6000-7000 people a year.
"This was a whole new experience for us. We had no idea what to expect but it's turned out to be fantastic. People who've come up to us are genuinely interested in the program and are interested in getting involved in a non-profit," said Porter.
"This Yelp Helps event is a perfect opportunity to show what we do and see what they can do and make a difference in the community whether it's time or money," said Jody Shiroma-Perreira, Aloha United Way.
